Pete Griffin believes he has achieved a distinguished career in the financial services industry based on two key principles: putting clients' interests first and providing exceptional personal service. With over three decades of experience in the financial services industry, Pete is qualified to help you reach your investment goals. He offers a hardworking, common-sense approach to successful investing, especially for people who are retired or near retirement. Pete earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Old Dominion University. In addition, he completed advanced studies at the Institute of Financial Education, a division of the Bank Administration Institute. Pete has been a member of Wachovia Securities' Premier Advisors program. Before joining Wachovia Securities in 1983, Pete served as Home Office Manager at Mutual (Wachovia) Savings Bank and Vice President and Treasurer at Virginia Beach Savings and Loan (RBC Bank). In 1989, he was named Rotarian of the Year of the Rotary Club of Hampton Roads, where he is a charter member and former director. His contributions to the financial services industry have included memberships with the Financial Planning Association, the Economics Club of Hampton Roads, the Investment Management Consultants Association and the Tidewater Chapter of the Institute of Financial Education, of which he is past president. Community and civic activities include serving as board member of the Old Dominion University Alumni Association, past president and board member of Lee's Friends, past chairman and member of Ghent United Methodist Church's endowment committee, Volunteer Hampton Roads and memberships in Downtown 100 Committee-Norfolk, Riverfront Civic League, and the United Way of Hampton Roads Professional Advisory Committee.

 

Mark Griffin

As a member of the Griffin Investment Group, Mark is committed to providing clients with the highest level of quality and understands the importance of each client's individual needs. Mark focuses his efforts on building lasting client relationships and helping clients reach their financial goals. Mark holds applicable securities registrations, including his Series 7, 63, and 65 as well as his annuities, life and health insurance licenses. His primary responsibilities include monitoring investment portfolios and performance reports. He utilizes an investment strategy plan designed to identify each client's goals and evaluate strategic asset allocation and resources, which helps clients achieve life goals and set new goals. In addition, he oversees our fixed-income recommendations and communicates investment recommendations. Prior to joining the Griffin Investment Group, he was an insurance representative with a Fortune 500 company. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Christopher Newport University. In the community, he serves on the United Way Fund Distribution Panel and is a member of the Economics Club of Hampton Roads. A native of Hampton Roads, he lives with his wife and three daughters in Norfolk.

 

John "Matt" Mathews

Since 1978, Matt Mathews has served clients' financial interests through analysis of available research, diligence and a common-sense approach to succesful investing. His extensive experience - throughout various stock and bond market cycles - enables him to help clients structure portfolios to meet specific financial objectives. Matt joined Wachovia Securities' predecessor firm, Wheat First Securities, in 1977. As a Vice President-Investment Officer and PIM Portfolio Manager, he manages a client base in excess of $85 million. Before beginning his career in the securities industry, Matt served his country for 31 years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1975 with the rank of captain. During his naval career, Matt was the captain of a diesel submarine and a major amphibious ship. He also served as commodore of an amphibious squadron and commanded the Fleet Training Center in Norfolk. Matt earned his bachelor's degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and did postgraduate work at George Washington University. In addition to memberships in several naval associations, Matt is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Norfolk, the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club and the World Affairs Council of Greater Hampton Roads. He also has served as treasurer of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.

 

 

Helen "Merry" Butler

Merry brings more than 15 years of experience working for Wachovia Securities and predecessor firms; first in human resources and payroll, then in over-the-counter and options trading. In 2002, she received recognition for providing outstanding client service with the Recognition of Excellence Award, and in 2004, received her Series 7 securities registration. Merry joined the Griffin Investment Group in 2004. Her responsibilities include monitoring and reviewing daily account activity, overseeing the contribution and distributions of assets for accuracy. She draws upon her human resources expertise and securities trading experience when handling a wide range of client inquiries. A Richmond native, Merry moved to Chesapeake in 1992 with her husband and two children. She enjoys gardening and spending time with her grandson.
